Christmas has been and gone, the decorations are back in the loft and it’s time to think about the year ahead. My lovely mum was 90 last year. I can’t imagine life without her but I know that time will come. So this year I want to spend as much time as possible with her.
Well I finally took the plunge and have given up full time work. At the end of February 2018 I hung up my hi-vis and hard hat and took early retirement from Veolia.
It wasn’t done on a whim, I’d been planning it for about 12 months. I secured a part time job at the local theatre so I knew I would have something to keep me occupied.
It’s been eight weeks now and it’s only just starting to feel real. I’ve done all sorts of things but it has mostly felt like I was on holiday. But now I need to knuckle down and plan how I want to spend my days……
I’m at that stage in my life when I need to make some big decisions. I’m 55 this year. Therefore (god willing) I’ve probably got another 15 years of healthy life left. The way my knees felt this morning I doubt I’ll ever be running a marathon!
So what do those 15 years look like? My world currently revolves around leaving home at 7.30am and getting back at 6.30pm, cooking, washing, cleaning, shopping etc. But I’m lucky that I have a good job – which I enjoy, money in my pocket, a nice home with the man I love.
My world revolves around my work and home in Shrewsbury, Shropshire. I’m discovering my 50’s, recently remarried, and have two cats. I blog about random things in my life but mainly food (my love of cooking), dieting (am always on one but never lose any weight!) and my cats (Billy & Bobby – Indoor cats of the Ragamuffin variety).
